Reading notes, summer

I used to finish every book I started, on principle. The principle was bad. Giving myself permission to stop at page fifty roughly doubled how much I read, because the cost of starting something dropped to almost nothing.
Finished: two novels and one book on systems design that I’ll reread.
Abandoned at ~50 pages: three, without guilt.
Still going: one long one, slowly, which is the correct speed for it.
I keep notes per book in a single file now instead of highlighting. Highlights felt productive but I never went back to them; forcing myself to write one paragraph in my own words is the part that sticks.
